Meet Jann, Holly, and Mara: 3 generations practicing Pilates!

In our last post, we talked about how Pilates is a great exercise option for all ages! Jann (grandmother), Holly (mom), and Mara (daughter) are joining us today to share their stories. This trio has been practicing Pilates weekly together- so fun! Read below to hear about their experience.

Tell us a bit about yourself-what is your current job and/or life stage?

Jann: Currently enjoying retirement.

Holly: I’m a homeschooling mom to 5 kids: Ages 16 through 9months!

Mara: I am 16 years old and a Sophomore in High School. I also have a part time job at Chick-fil-a.

What were your goals in starting Pilates?

Mara: I am a runner and enjoy track in the spring and cross country in the fall at Pella High School. As I ran I started to develop pain in my hip that affected my running. My goals in starting Pilates were to get rid of that pain and to become strong and ready for this year’s track season with hope to qualify for the State Championship again.

How have you noticed the strength or skills from Pilates helping you in your everyday life?

Holly: My core is getting stronger and my pelvic floor has improved since having a baby last year! I am able to keep up with my kids at their different events and run around on the cross country course cheering them on. I have become more flexible, experienced better movement and posture. I feel stronger over all and have little to no hip pain. I’m thankful to be able to get out, move and become stronger especially during the winter months. I have also felt less tension in my neck and shoulder areas which has helped alleviate many aches and pains that I have had in the past.

What do you love about your classes at Pella Pilates?

Jann: Doing Pilates has definitely helped me with my back issues and to strengthen my arms and legs! I love that I get to do Pilates with my daughter and granddaughter. Don’t be afraid to try it! It’s fun and you don’t really feel like you’re exercising!!

Mara: I love all of the ladies that I workout with. They are all so sweet and make me feel like I belong even though I am younger than they are.

Holly: I love the different exercises and variations that can be done on the reformer. Natalie has been an amazing instructor and makes the class fun, keeps you moving and is a great encourager. I also love working out with different people and encouraging each other along the way.

How do you feel after a Pilates session?

Mara: I always feel like a got a strong workout in which makes me feel good and accomplished.

Tell us some highlights of your progress since starting Pilates…

Holly: I am so thankful that my pelvic floor and core has gotten stronger and I love that I have less tension in my neck and shoulders. Pilates has been great for my body and exercise I enjoy and look forward to.

Thank you all for sharing your stories with us. We love having you in the studio and are grateful you are a part of the Pella Pilates family!
